TW impresses on track return
racing season got off to a rousing start on the Vesey Street track.
Ridden by Fernando Rego in the B Division, TW took a pair of heats in 1.20 and 1.26. And because of her strong times the pony will jump to a higher division next week.
Three new ponies competed in one class with Todd's Ebony, ridden by Timmy Boyles, placing second twice and Bad Boy Tony, with Nicholas DeCosta aboard, finishing third twice. Michael Rodrigues' Jannaway crossed the finish line fourth on two occasions.
Just A Gigolo and Michael Roberts pulled off double heat triumphs with Charger's Rob Roy, driven by Colin Mello, finishing second. Rookie driver Anthony Stevens, on Penny's Rocky Road, experienced some problems on the way to a third place finish.
Andrea Westerfield, another newcomer, steered V Six to a couple of wins, but it was Keith Woodley on Dark and Stormy stealing the spotlight after the horse took a spill at the beginning of the first heat.
Dark and Stormy finished second in both heats. Jairazhino Cooper's Cathy Bea Abby endured a pair of disappointing third place finishes.
Paceway Debutante, ridden by David Mello, recorded a double heat success.
Paceway defeated Kenny Mills' Pat's Recovery by a whisker in the first heat.
Pat's Recovery lost a shoe during that race and could not compete in the second, opening the door for Ell Dee's Mary Ellen, with Joseph Viera aboard, to finish second in the second heat.
Grand Magic, T-Bird, Sandtrap and Mowtown Scott provided exciting moments in one division. T-Bird, ridden by Michael DeCosta, came from behind to win one heat and then won another.
New pony Carolina Jubilee, ridden by Murray Terceira, stole the show by winning two heats and is already seen as a horse to watch this season.
Gusto's Crackerjack, ridden by Bobby DeGraffe, and Pondababe, with Daniel Greenslade, finished in a dead heat in one thrilling race. Melody Heat won the next.
Shamrock Tuxedo picked up from last season as jockey Eddie Roque steered her two victory in a pair of heats.
Racing continues next Sunday with post-time at 1 p.m.
