Only the freshest food and beer at first ever brewpub

At North Rock Brewing Co., where customer satisfaction is key, freshness means everything. Whether ordering any of the pub's handcrafted ales or selecting from the many tempting menu dishes, one can be assured that fresh materials were used at each step of preparation and that they were put together with the customer in mind. "Our food menu was created by our head chef, Adrian Hornsby,'' explained Heather Littlejohn, who owns the South Shore, Smith's Parish pub with her husband, David. "It's a fresh adaptation of the menu that was (at the restaurant under previous ownership). Even if you're just having an appetiser, you can be assured that everything is fresh, prepared to order, and done just as carefully as if it were a main course.'' Like its' English counterparts, Bermuda's first brewpub boasts traditional favourites. The Ploughman's Lunch offers pickled onions and pork pie on a bed of lettuce with crusty bread and a choice of Irish Cheddar or French Brie; Steak & Ale Pie, the classic tender beef and mushrooms in gravy covered in a puff pastry, is a house speciality as is the ever-popular Fish & Chips. "We also have slightly more exciting things such as Chicken Florentine, smoked fillet of salmon and wild mushrooms and corn crepes with Feta cheese. We're also paying more attention to the more well-rounded or health-conscious appetite. There's a lot more seafood on the menu -- two daily specials and five entrees and we have quite a few vegetarian selections, salads and different kinds of pasta as well. And our chef, Adrian, is quite talented with soups.'' North Rock Brewing Co. offers a number of items on the menu which incorporate their finely crafted ales. "Adrian tried to incorporate our beer in his cooking as well and anything with beer on the menu is made with our beer,'' she said. "Even desserts. In fact our house specialty is, Chocolate Porter Cup. It's

To boost the restaurant side, Mrs. Littlejohn said, North Rock Brewing Co. has also kept on an employee from the restaurant formerly at their site, as maitre d'hotel. "Alex Azaro has been a very integral part of our success to date,'' she said. "He's been in the service industry his whole working life and has quite a loyal following. He's very energetic and extremely excited about the venture as he's seen it go from the old to the new and is very positive. And he is also working very hard to have our team of wait staff give the good service we expect.'' North Rock Brewing Co. is located at 10 South Road, Smith's Parish. Lunch is served daily from 11.30 p.m. through to 3 p.m. Dinner is served from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. PHOTO With brewing a longtime hobby of owners Heather and David Littlejohn, they jumped at the opportunity to open Bermuda's first ever brewpub, believing it will be a hit with locals and visitors.
