Victor Scott raises funds for India

Victor Scott Primary School has raised almost $1,400 for the Kirwin International Relief Foundation.

During the month of May, Victor Scott students and staff held a two-week coin drive to raise funds in support of the foundation. They collected $1,395.95 which included $100 from a P1 bake sale.

The money will help purchase educational and medical supplies for students in two educational centres in Sarvodaypuri and Baihrodih, India.

To fully understand the cause they were supporting, students of Primary Five and Six had an India day.

Simulating the life of a student in India for a day students were served rice and water for breakfast and lunch and sat on empty potato sacks with no desks or chairs like some children in India must.

In addition rather than using exercise books they wrote on clip boards with chalk to mimic the slates that some Indian children use.

Throughout the day they also had talks and time for personal reflection.

The Kirwin International Relief Foundation is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to helping others help themselves in a respectful and environmentally sustainable manner.
