A self confessed heroin addict pleaded guilty to two charges of bike theft, handbag snatching and an additional theft in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Michael Reuben DeSilva, 21, Wentworth Lane, Sandys, stole a Suzuki RC100 worth $1,300 on March 17.

He used the cycle to steal a woman's knapsack, containing items worth $250, at the junction of Middle Road and Watlington Road, Devonshire on April 9.

On March 18, DeSilva admitted to stealing a Yamaha Axis worth $2,700. The carrier basket had items worth over $4,000.

Police saw him on the Suzuki on April 13 but he escaped custody by running a red light on Church Street and Cedar Avenue.

DeSilva also admited to stealing a cable box and remote control, worth $250, from his grandmother's house on April 17.

Defence lawyer Elizabeth Christopher pushed for the defendant to be seen in Drugs Court to get some help.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves remanded him in custody until May 5.
