for stealing two neckties from the Trimingham's store on Reid Street Saturday.

James Stanley Ardrey, 25, pleaded guilty to shoplifting the items, which were valued at $32.50 each.

A visitor to the Island, Ardrey was stopped by Trimingham's security guards after he stuffed the ties in his bike helmet and tried to leave the premises around 4.30 p.m.

Court also heard that Ardrey had had enough money on his person to pay for the ties.

Yesterday, Ardrey expressed remorse over the incident, calling his behaviour "childish'' and apologising to both Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp and Bermuda.

WOMAN ROBBED IN ST. GEORGE'S CRM Woman robbed in St. George's A St. George's woman became the latest victim of a violent robbery.

The 23-year-old told Police she was walking along Wellington Hill around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday when a man approached her from behind and demanded money.

The woman said she was grabbed around the neck and punched in her face.

A brief struggle ensued before the offender pulled her rucksack from her back and ran off.

Police said a 39-year-old St. George's man was arrested shortly after the robbery. Inquiries were continuing.

THREE ARRESTED IN CYCLE THEFT PROBE CRM Three arrested in cycle theft probe Police arrested three young people in separate incidents involving stolen cycles or cycle parts over the weekend.

On Sunday night, Police found a 19-year-old Somerset man tampering with the ignition of a cycle at Albert Row, Sandys Parish.

Subsequent inquiries showed that the cycle was stolen and the man was arrested on suspicion of stealing the cycle.

During the early hours of Saturday morning, Police arrested a 20-year-old on North Shore Road, Pembroke, when they discovered that the cycle he was riding was fitted with a stolen licence plate.

Police arrested a 17-year-old motorist last Friday evening on Kindley Field Road after they stopped him and found the cycle he was riding was fitted with stolen parts.

MAN DENIES TAKING BIKE CTS Man denies taking bike A 20-year-old man pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to stealing and riding another man's motorbike.

Ramon Hollinsid was accused of taking Christopher Mitchell's bike in either December or January and driving it without insurance.

Hollinsid was released by Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp on $500 bail. He faces trial on July 18.

TWO SAILORS LAND IN HOSPITAL HTH Two sailors land in hospital Two sailors are in the care of the US Navy after the Government pilot boat Inspector brought them to shore yesterday morning.

Harbour Radio was notified on Friday that a US Navy ship would arrive near Bermuda late on Saturday afternoon to discharge the two crew members -- one with a leg injury, the other with a minor ailment, a spokesman said.

The ship did arrive, but weather did not permit the transfer, he said. The ship returned offshore and returned at daylight on Sunday to a point about two miles off St. David's Head, where the transfer was completed at about 10 a.m.

JAZZ-I-OLOGY' A BIG SUCCESS ART `Jazz-i-ology' a big success More than 300 people turned out for a a "Jazz-i-ology'' concert on Friday night which was staged by the Masterworks arts foundation to raise awareness of the arts.

Featuring the Choral Dynamics, Shine Hayward and the Dennis Fox Trio, the performance at Number One Shed allowed the audience to mingle with the artists and "gave a unique overview of what is happening creatively on the Island'', said Masterworks spokesman Mrs. Elise Outerbridge, who added that there are plans to stage a similar event next year.
