Kyle Lightbourne has been bitten by the golf bug.

And Bermuda?s national football coach just can?t get enough of the sport.

These days the former Coventry City striker can be seen in and around the clubhouse at Belmont Hills where he has been reunited with former PHC Zebras team-mate Derek (Nails) Douglas.

Lightbourne actually works on a part-time basis at the Paget clubhouse which is nearing the end of extensive renovations.

Taking time out from his daily schedule to speak to , Lightbourne explained:?I am a ranger and sometimes I work around the yard with Derek (Douglas), Brian (Morris) and Darron Swan.?

Lightbourne?s passion for golf began during his time playing at Stoke City in the UK in the late 1990s.

?I?ve been working here since April 2005 but I actually started playing golf when I was 30,? he continued. ?I actually got involved with golf through football. Every football club in England has an annual golf tournament but for the first eight years I was there I never took part in any tournaments.

?I would dress up in golf attire and look the part but never played. I would just follow everyone around the course.?

That trend, however, would soon change.

?The first time I actually played was when I was at Stoke and I?ve been playing ever since,? Lightbourne added. ?Golf is a sport that takes up a lot of time and practice to reach a certain level. It?s a game nobody has mastered yet.?

Lightbourne said he plays the game solely for recreation ? for the time being.

?I may play in a tournament at some point in time in the future as an amateur and then see what happens from there,? added the former Somerset Cup Match and Bermuda opening bowler.

?But for the moment I?m just trying to get my game to a certain level of consistency and who knows I might be play in one of the bigger tournaments like the Goslings Invitational.?
