?This is what we want to see?

On the streets of Hamilton there was a mostly positive reaction to the new Cabinet and Premier Ewart Brown, with members of the public speaking of the energy and excitement they feel the changes have created.

While some are prepared to sit back and watch to see how things unfold, others were impressed by the way the new ministers seemed to be logical fits for the portfolios and responsibilities they had been handed.

The newly created role of a Minister of Social Rehabilitation had at least one person scratching his head wondering exactly what that entailed, but elsewhere the general feeling from those who expressed an opinion was one of anticipation.

Scanning the list of new Cabinet and Senate appointments Edwin Armstrong said: ?They all look like people who really fit into the portfolios they have been given, Paula Cox is in a good spot.

?It was the right time for a change and Dr. Brown is going to do great, he has vision and ideas.

?To take the country forward you have to generate some energy. The party before was still acting like it was the Opposition, but now we have some excitement.

?This is what we want to see. Dr. Brown is a worker and a great guy. To become Premier the way he did was the right way and it had to be done. I believe he is going to do it and I?m excited for him.?

Another passer-by Peter Backeberg, said: ?I?m curious about the definition of social rehabilitation, what is it? It sounds like the social agenda.

?David Burch has been effective making things happen and is capable, so that is good. And looking at the names, who says the Government is not into recycling?

?But has Dr. Brown taken on too much with Tourism and Transport as well? I think he already has his hands full as Premier. I wonder if this is the best application of his time and talents??

Andre Simons said: ?I?m pleased there has been a change. Things did get stale.

?I was surprised by the appointment of David Burch to Public Safety and Housing. I?m not good at making an assessment on politics, but I believe he will do well.?

Shayla Woods said: ?I?m fine with it. I just hope things will go from strength to strength. I?m hoping for good things from Dr. Brown if he keeps his promises. I also think it was a sound move to keep David Burch in housing, as he has done well.?

Mrs. L. Johnson, of Pembroke, said: ?The new Cabinet is a marvellous thing. Dr. Brown and Paula Cox will do a marvellous job, they just have to be given the chance.

?Wayne Caines will do well, he?s a good speaker and he wants more of a challenge. He knows what he is doing. I think it was the right time to have a new Cabinet.

?Give them a chance and see what they have got to offer. Look at what Dr. Brown has done for tourism. He?s got a vision. let?s see if he can make it work.?

Another woman, who did not give her name, commented: ?I?m going to wait and see. I want to see some positive things come out of it, hopefully there will be some good. I?ll wait and see.?
