A walkout by staff at the Bermuda Broadcasting Company has put local stations off the television and radio tonight.

TV channels ZBM TV 9 and ZFB TV 7, plus radio stations Power 95 and FM 89 are all affected by the union action.

Unionised staff staged a walkout at 5 p.m after a long standing worker was laid off - and amid rumours of other redundancies.

Board chairman Fernance Perry sent a message via a manager to staff a few minutes later stating: “Go home and get off my property.”

The staffers are due to hold a union meeting at 10 a.m tomorrow, with it looking unlikely that any local news or programme content will be broadcast until then.
