Pembroke East Central voters are being urged to register for the November 26 poll if they have not already done so.

Parliamentary Registrar Sabrina Phillips said that voters of the constituency can register or correct their details until Thursday.

Nomination day will be November 7 and candidates can be nominated at the polling station St. Paul's Centennial Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The advance poll for absentee and incapacitated voters has been scheduled for 19 November. And another advanced poll, for people in institutions such as hospitals and homes, will be held November 20.

After the registration period, a provisional voters list will be published by October 31 and people will have until November 7 to lodge any objections. The final voters' list will be published on November 14. The poll itself will be held at St. Paul's Centennial Hall on November 26 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital after a gang punched and kicked him in the face before robbing his gold chain in Court Street on Sunday morning.

The man had left the Spinning Wheel night club after an argument with a woman.

As he waited outside the club for his daughter a group of four to six men attacked him and pulled him to the ground where the beating continued. He suffered cuts and bruises.

A Northwest Airlines pilot was chased and mugged by four men in Dundonald Street in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 34-year-old who flies for Northwest Airlines had just left a bar when he noticed the men following him.

He ran but they caught him and dragged him to the ground and took $160 from his wallet before disappearing. The pilot suffered minor wrist abrasions.

A burglar stole a large amount of jewellery from a Doubloon Lane, Pembroke home after breaking in on Saturday night.

And two DVD players were taken from a Stowe Court, Pembroke home during a break in on Friday night.

Police are also investigating the theft of $1,000 from a home in Fenton Drive, Pembroke on Saturday afternoon.

A burglar took jewellery and $1,700 after breaking into a Warwick residence.

The tourist victim reported on Thursday she had lost two gold chains, a gold broach with a diamond cluster and a gold bracelet with a matching necklace after the theft earlier in the week.

Marine and Ports mechanics are understood to have burnt the midnight oil last Tuesday to prepare the ferry Resolute for Wednesday's runs - but Government denies there were problems with the new boat.

A Government spokeswoman said there were “no problems with the Resolute”, adding: “A serviceman did come from abroad for a service warranty check and for audit purposes to see how procedures were being done. There was no interruption in ferry services.”

But The Royal Gazette understands that mechanics stayed on the job until at least three in the morning.

An upcoming fundraiser for the Women's Resource Centre will see ten prominent women in the business community cooking for the public.

The event slated for Aqua, the restaurant and Ariel Sands hotel, will see the women prepare dishes with Claudio Vigilante, co-owner of the restaurant, and well known local chef Fred Ming.

The participants will work in teams of two and are: Lady Swan and Charmaine Burgess (Cable & Wireless), Abigail Clifford (Partner Re), Dr. TerryLynne Emery, Kita Hill (Kim Kita's), Nicola Jones (Bank of Bermuda), Candace Laing (Ace Foundation), Lisabet Outerbridge (Rock Island Cafe), Georgia Marshall (Marshall, Diel & Meyers) and Joanne Pully (Centre on Philanthropy).

A special feature of the afternoon will be the auction of a dinner for 12 prepared by Chef Ming, for the highest bidder.

The Sunday brunch will be $50 per person. It will take place on October 27 from 2 to 5 p.m.
