Bermuda online quiz night

An online quiz night is being set up in Bermuda and is hoping to lure trivia merchants with weekly prizes of up to $1,000. The site is being set up by a group of local entrepreneurs who hope to attract Bermuda residents regularly to the Wednesday night quiz with a total prize draw of $2,750.

?It will be on every Wednesday and you will be able to log on a play a quiz game about the world and about Bermuda,? said Peter Woolnough, one of the directors of the company along with Les Center and Linda Smith.

Set to be launched on January 14, the game will have a first prize will be $1,000, second $500, third $250 and there will be ten runners up of $100 each.

And the organisers, called Somers House Ltd., hope the enterprise will be a real money-spinner, with the possibility of the size of prizes increasing if more and more people log on.

The group say there are no sponsors for the prizes and intend to make their money by charging for the games ? $7 for one, $12 for two and $15 for three goes.

?As more people play, the prizes will go up,? said Mr. Woolnough, who said that the games can be played between noon and midnight and the group claim the winners will get cheques by the end of the week.

The Somers House group have been working on the plan for 14 months ?getting it right? and believe they have cracked a way to stop professional quizmasters from taking over the site.

?Unless there is a professional Bermudian quiz person out there, we will be fine,? laughed Mr. Woolnough. ?This is a very focused quiz so that locals have a definite advantage.?
