Eight law students make the grade

The Bermuda College - in partnership with the University of Kent at Canterbury - announced yesterday that eight students in the two-year Kent Law School programme will graduate on July 17.

The two-year, part-time evening Certificate in Law programme has been offered at the College since 1999 and is accredited by the UK university.

New programme director Ameenah Ahad said the programme is ideally suited to Bermuda.

It is equivalent to one year's full-time study at the first-year undergraduate level and does not require students to leave the Island.

"We now have the full complement of 20 students in the second year of the programme and at least as many have applied to begin their first year with us," said Mrs. Ahad.

"The programme provides teaching to people in law enforcement and legal fields, as well as anyone who wants more insight into the law."

Mrs. Ahad said many of the students eventually attend the University of Kent or apply the credits to other universities.

This year's graduates are Dave Greenidge, Maria Neer, JoAnne Burrows, Noriette Fox, Eugene Johnston, Zoe Roberts, Jennifer Stervinou and Antoine Stirling. Six will attend the University of Kent in the autumn to complete their baccalaureate degrees.

The programme will begin its fifth year next fall, catering to adults of all ages and a variety of backgrounds.

The ceremony takes place at the Bermuda College Centre.
