Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told the court officers found a clear plastic zip lock sandwich bag with marijuana in Daniel Behler's belongings when he arrived in Bermuda at the Civil Air Terminal on July 2.

Behler, a 27-year-old factory worker from Pennsylvania, told the court the drugs were for his own personal use.

Behler's lawyer Mr. Mark Pettingill asked Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to impose a lenient fine on his client.

Mr. Francis disagreed and ordered Behler to pay a $1,000 fine.

Lorraine Rutkowski, of Reading, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing .4 grams of an amphetamine and .24 grams of cocaine.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said 35-year-old Rutkowski was stopped at the airport by officers on July 2 and the drugs were found in her belongings.

Rutkwoski's lawyer Mark Pettingill told the court that the drugs found were a minuscule amount and that Rutkowski was not even aware that she had it.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered Rutkowski to pay $100 for each offence.

MAN OWES $1,350 FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES CTS Man owes $1,350 for traffic offences A 39-year-old man who appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday for failing to pay $600 in fines for traffic offences pleaded guilty to four more traffic offences and was fined a further $750.

Malcolm Williams, of Riviera Estate Road, Southampton, had been ordered to pay the $600 by August 16 or spend 60 days in prison.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale also told the court when Police caught Williams speeding on South Road, Warwick on August 23, 1993 they discovered he did not have a driver's licence.

Further, Williams was riding a friend's bike which was not licensed or insured, Sgt. Dale added.

Upon hearing this, Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered Williams to pay an additional $750 in fines on or before the end of October.

EARNS ANOTHER 9 MONTHS FOR PROWLING CTS Earns another 9 months for prowling A Hamilton Parish man caught prowling on private property was sentenced to nine months in prison, in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

James Phelps Hill, 39, of Twin Lanes, pleaded guilty to the charge. Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told the court that on May 30, Hill entered the property of a woman near Clearview guest house in Hamilton Parish.

"When questioned by the woman as to why he was on her property, Hill said he thought there was a party, however when he was told he had the wrong house he refused to leave and the Police were called,'' Sgt. Dale said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Dill, who is presently serving time for several breaking and entering convictions, that he would have to sentence him to nine months on top of his sentence as he had a history of trespassing, especially in Hamilton Parish.

CRUISE VISITOR FINED FOR HAVING DRUGS CTS Cruise visitor fined for having drugs A 20-year-old American man was fined $200 in Magistrates' Court yesterday for possessing cannabis and drug equipment.

Roger M. Showstack, of Boston, admitted the charges.

Prosecuting, Sgt. John Dale told the court that on July 4 at 3 p.m., Showstack and his parents were passengers on board a visiting cruise ship which was berthed at Ordnance Island in St. George's.

"As he was going through customs he told officers that he may be in possession of an article liable for seizure,'' Sgt. Dale said.

He added that the officers then checked his cabin and found two commercially made pipes, one containing .29 grams of cannabis and the other had cannabis residue.

"Showstack admitted they were his and he was later arrested by narcotics officers.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Showstack $100 for possessing drugs and $100 for possessing drug equipment.

FORMER RESIDENT CAUGHT WITH CANNABIS CTS Former resident caught with cannabis A 26-year-old American man who lived in Bermuda for 17 years was fined $300 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after he admitted possessing 2.53 grams of cannabis.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told the court that on July 4 at 11.45 a.m., Sean D. Duarte was searched by customs officers after disembarking from a cruise ship berthed at Ordnance Island in St. George's.
