Insurance cover being offered for pets
property and casualty section of The Argus Group that include cover for veterinary fees, death and third party claims.
Starting Monday, insurance policies will be available for cats, dogs and horses.
The horse policy includes, among other things, coverage for death as a direct result of foaling and injury sustained by the rider.
There is a $100,000 third party liability limit included and veterinary fees are covered up to $2,500 in any one year. Policyholders would also be covered if the horse strays, is lost, stolen or permanently incapacitated.
The dog and cat policies are similar, including cover for veterinary fees, accidental death and $100,000 third party cover. Hospitalisation and kennel fees may also apply.
Manager, Larry Osborne said, "We believe this product will prove to be very popular with the pet owners in Bermuda and it certainly is unique.'' He said pet owners would not only get peace of mind but good value for the premium charge.
He said, "Our policies have been designed based on very successful English products as we thought that Bermudian and horse owners deserved far better cover than is now available.
He said that the only insurance currently available for pets was add-on cover to some home policies for third party damage caused by the pets.
