Receivers for the closed Daniel's Head eco-village are still trying to find a buyer for the Somerset property.

The tented tourist resort on the site of a former Canadian naval annexe went into receivership in the spring and accountants KPMG, who were appointed receivers by Bank of Butterfield, have been seeking a buyer since then.

Receiver Malcolm Butterfield said: "We are still trying to find a buyer and we are still in sensitive negotiations at this point. The thing is moving along as best as we can expect."

Mr. Butterfield said he was talking to several prospective buyers but would not disclose if they were local or from overseas. Nor would he say whether he was confident of concluding a deal this year.

However, in April, Mr. Butterfield said the potential buyers were from both Bermuda and overseas.

The site is owned by the Exel Legacy Corporation of San Diego, California.

Residents take action against construction firm

Wilkinson Quarry neighbours are taking Island Construction company to court in an effort to get the company to control its blasting activities at the site.

Gosling's, landlord of the Swizzle Inn and neighbour Noela Haycock are among the parties to the writ which was filed last week.

Mrs. Haycock, who is currently off the Island, has been fighting a losing battle to control blasting at the quarry which has in the past left thick dust and debris in her home and nearby establishments.

"The main purpose of the writ is to get them to control the blasting," said Gosling Brothers chief executive officer Nancy Gosling.

She said the blasting has caused buildings to shake violently and sent rocks flying around.

Officials of the construction company could not be reached for comment.

Dockyard fountain out of action

The Water Pops Fountain in Dockyard has been closed for repairs until replacement parts are available.

The West End Development Corporation (Wedco) said it has experienced mechanical difficulties with the fountain and was attempting to minimise the period the fountain is non-operational.

However, the time depends on Wedco's ability to obtain the replacement parts in a timely manner.

Members of the public may visit the children's playground which remains open. Wedco apologises for any inconvenience.

Beauty salon seeks to convert to restaurant

Dimensions beauty shop on King Street, Hamilton, has registered an application with the Planning Department to convert the salon into a fast food take-out restaurant.

Dimensions owner, Mitra Johnson, said it was too early to talk about her plans for the change.
