BBFS claim third-place finish
The Bermuda Brazilian Football School’s under-11 side earned a place on the podium at the recent Eastern Development Cup in Hammonton, New Jersey.
The side finished third in their eight-team group with an overall record of two wins and two losses. They made a sluggish start to the tournament, failing to win on the opening day of the event. They did, however, bounce back and finish on the podium, with players such as Jarryd Richardson, Khiry Hollis, Amir Thomas, Ajani Burchall and Riley Robinson leading the charge. In contrast, the under-14 side did not fare as well, losing all three of their matches that they led.
Even so, Cal Blankendal, the BBFS executive, said there were still positives to take from the experience.
The two-day tournament, held from May 22 to 27, involved about three hundred teams from North America.
The under-11 side played in an eight versus eight format in the Ruby Bracket, while the under-14 side played in the conventional 11 versus 11 Silver Bracket. The BBFS touring party included players from several football clubs, including Somerset Cricket Club, North Village Community Club and Bermuda Athletic Association.
