Everything is ducky at the Garnett house

Duck billed and fatty puss: Woody and Fluffy get to know each other

The Garnetts are used to picking up the waifs and strays of the animal world and now, to add to their menagerie of cats, comes Woody the duck.

He wandered into the building firm where Gary Garnett works, after losing his family at about a week old.

Gary said: ?(He) wandered into our carpentry shop and was covered in woodshavings so we called him Woody. He?s lost his flock so we don?t know if he?s a chip off the old block.?

Since then he has found a place in the Garnett?s Pembroke home.

With three cats around you might expect a very short stay, but Woody gets along with Fluffy, Pepper and Little Man quite nicely.

?There is a little bit of affection ? well, put it this way, they don?t try to eat him,? said Gary.

When asked about his growing collection he said: ?They must be drawn to me. Sometimes people volunteer them ? we are not Dr. Doolittle.?

It?s been a learning experience for the couple who have had to go onto websites to find out how to look after Woody, who is fed waterfowl grain from a local pet store.

Karen said: ?We don?t know a lot about ducks but at six weeks he?s supposed to quack. If it?s a girl, it?s supposed to be quite loud.?

The couple are enjoying life with Woody but hope to find him a more suitable home. If you can help call 292-8860.
