declaring it David Wingate Day.

Mr. Wingate will address a series of assemblies on the local environment before talking with senior school students about his time at Saltus and his historic rediscovery of the cahow.

Mr. Wingate will also present Saltus graduate Aaron Lutkin with a newly endowed scholarship named after former headmaster Trevor Rowell.

Aaron was featured in the Royal Gazette 's Young Observer section earlier this month where he talked about his struggle to get financial support for his study of horticulture.

Saltus headmaster Nigel Kermode said: "We are delighted to be able to count David Wingate among our alumni and truly believe he is deserving of public thanks for all he has done on behalf of our Island.

"It is also fitting, and we are especially pleased, that he will assist us in presenting a scholarship to help a deserving Saltus graduate attain a degree in horticulture.''
