Mr. Stempel, a long time senior executive of American International Group, has been a generous benefactor to a wide range of Bermuda charities.

A grant from his family's foundation helped spur other Saltus parents, alumni and friends to donate cash to build the $100,000 facility.

The room, a former locker room under the school hall, was made ready for its official opening on Monday, October 16.

Mr. Stempel's sons both attended the school and his grandchildren are current students.
