began yesterday, more than 20 years after the college's inception.

Reading the proclamation from the steps of the Cabinet Office, Premier David Saul saluted the efforts of those "who have fostered this historic advancement'' of the college.

Although Bermuda College was established in 1974, when Parliament passed the College Act, to provide full- and part-time education and training at post secondary level, Dr. Saul noted that such programmes and activities were initially offered from at the college's Robert's Avenue, Devonshire campus in facilities of the former Bermuda Technical Institute, and later at the Bermuda Hotel and Catering College and the Academic Fifth Form Centre.

But when the college acquired the Stonington, Paget property in 1978, its board of governors began the process of relocating the expanding programmes and activities.

Sixteen years after completing the first phase of the Stonington campus, the college will mark the completion of all structures, buildings, and facilities that are required to house its "diverse activities and services'' with a week of events.

And Dr. Saul also urged all residents to support the events.

The main events will take place tomorrow with a college flag run from the old Devonshire campus to Stonington scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and the official ceremonies are set to kick off at 11.30 a.m.

The week's activities will also include an alumni nostalgia and art Exhibition, college tours and video showings, a food festival on Wednesday evening, and a performance by Time Tunnel in the Student Centre.
