Detective questioned about third individual in couple?s drugs trial

Det. Con. Kirly Mitchell returned to the witness box on Friday in the cocaine possession trial of Oshane Eugene Darrell and Jennifer Mederios.

He was grilled further about the Police search of the pair?s Sandys residence at 23 Seawall Drive, and the discovery of the drugs in the residence?s second bathroom ? which was missed on Police officers? first sweep of the house.

He also clarified the reason for his mistake on Mederios? first bail notice.

Mederios initially received a notice to attend court on March 19. When she left the Police station the bail notice had been changed indicating she was to appear at Hamilton Police Station on April 10.

A few hours later, Mederios was summoned back to the Police station and provided with a new bail notice which told her to appear in court on March 19.

On Friday, the detective told the court he had originally changed the date on the bail form to match the date he had given to his Sergeant earlier.

?When I wrote 10 April 2003 on the notice of bail for Jennifer Mederios, I said it was right because it is the same date I gave my Sergeant the first time Mederios was bailed,? he said.

When he called her back, however, Det. Con. Mitchell said he changed the date again in order for it to coincide with Darrell?s appearance.

Both Det. Con. Mitchell and P.c. Robert Butterfield were questioned on Friday about statements they took from Mederios concerning a man named Marcel Dill.

In her statements, Medeiros said Dill visited 23 Seawall Drive shortly after returning from a trip abroad on November 20 or 21, 2002.

She also said that he brought presents for her one-month-old daughter but that she was not aware of Dill bringing her boyfriend anything.

Dill was picked up by Police shortly before officers raided the Seawall Drive residence.

Det. Con. Mitchell told the court that Dill pleaded guilty to drug possession and received jail time.

The Crown is expected to close its case against Mederios and Darrell today.
