Tomorrow the family of Shaundae Jones should have been celebrating his 21st birthday.

Instead they are still coming to terms with his murder early last year and the fact that nobody has yet been arrested.

The bright Bermuda College student, from Smith?s Avenue, Warwick, was murdered with a single shotgun blast to his chest outside Club Malabar in Dockyard in April.

Meanwhile suspect Kenith Clifton Bulford skipped Police bail and possibly the country.

Last month Police said they would widen the net overseas in their search for Bulford after sightings of him on the Island dried up.

Bulford has a history of going missing while on Police bail having left the country during the 1990s during anti-drug Operation Cleansweep but there was insufficient evidence to keep him in custody in connection with the killing.

Police are linking up with authorities overseas, including in New Jersey where Bulford stayed during eight years away from Bermuda.

Relative Sharyn Menzies of Birmingham, Alabama said Police should be doing more and she blasted authorities for failing to keep tabs on Bulford when he was on the Island.

Ms Menzies said: ?He should never have been allowed to leave. They should have monitored his activity. It upsets me he was able to leave.?

She said the family were outraged about the mishandling of this case.

?My grandmother and Shaundae?s grandfather were brother and sister. From the age of three, I spent my summers in Bermuda.

?I looked forward to those summers with my Uncle Buster and Aunt Ellen. And Shaundae?s mother, Marsha, spent her summers with her aunt Gladys in New York.

?Our family is mostly made up of females. Until Shaundae?s birth, my brother was the only male in the family. We were just elated with Shaundae?s birth and just devastated with his slaying.

?What is going on in Bermuda? Why haven?t the police caught the murderer??

Ms Menzies has been there for Shaundae?s key moments and would have made the journey to be in Bermuda on Friday.

?I came here for his high school graduation and I would have come for his 21st birthday. All the important moments ? I was there.?

The memory of his graduation is her favourite of Shaundae.

?He led his class with distinction and humour. He was an intelligent boy with a dry sense of humour.

?He was in college and interested in air conditioning and refrigeration. He would have been a terrific engineer, something in that field.?

Instead Shaundae was gunned down in his prime.

?We as a family need some type of closure to begin the healing process,? said Ms Menzies. ?We can?t begin until someone has been held accountable.?

She said the murderer was running free with the the aid of family members and friends.

Ms Menzies said: ?We say to them, think about 20-year-old Shaundae Jones, he was gunned down like a dog; never to become the man we all know he would become, never to marry and become a father, never to have the career that would be an asset to Bermuda.

?Before you let this murderer into your home, stop and think! He murdered Shaundae without a care or thought, he will do it again and it could be someone in your household.?

?Finally, let me state, I am a travel consultant and took pride in booking vacation packages to Bermuda.

?Until this murderer is caught, I cannot and will not recommend Bermuda as a vacation spot.?

Last night a Police spokesman said: ?We have a lot of outstanding cases and this one is being handled accordingly.?

Police are promising a $5,000 reward for anyone with information on Bulford?s whereabouts.

He is 28, about six feet four, brown-skinned, of medium build and weighing about 180 to 200 pounds. Anyone with information should call Police on 295-0011.
