Sick juror stops attempted murder trial
The Supreme Court trial of Brandon (Cal) Barnes Brockett, 21, was adjourned for a week yesterday after the only male jury member fell seriously ill over the weekend.
Brockett is charged with the attempted murder of Jelani (Roots) Butterfield at Dockyard's Club Malabar in December, 2002.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves said he was willing to proceed with only 11 jurors, but this was rendered impossible after the objection of defence counsel Victoria Pearman acting under instruction from Brockett.
The Crown is represented by Dwayne Caines and Department of Public Prosecutions consultant Kulandra Ratneser.
