A Police spokesman reported that a 42-year-old woman was sitting in Par-La-Ville Park at around 6 p.m. when a man came up behind her and grabbed her bag.

The woman followed the man as he ran onto Queen Street but lost the offender.

However a man who was in the park witnessed the thief grab the woman's bag and also gave chase.

He caught up to him and was able to detain the offender on Church Street until the Police arrived.

The handbag and its contents were recovered and returned to the woman.

The suspect -- a 17-year-old Devonshire man -- was arrested in connection with the theft and was expected to appear in Magistrates' Court in due course.

CAR DAMAGED IN FIGHT CRM Car damaged in fight A mob formed on Reid Street early on Sunday morning after an altercation caused thousands of dollars damage to a private car.

Police reported that they tried to make inquiries, "but because the situation had the potential to escalate'', the complainant was taken aside to be further interviewed.

The vehicle, which belonged to one of the men involved in the fight, received damage to its outside and nearside panels.

MAN DODGES GAS GILL CRM Man dodges gas bill Police are investigating a report that a man drove off without paying for gas at a Sandys Esso station.

The manager of the service station told Somerset Police a man in a white Nissan Sentra drove into the station just before 11 a.m. last Sunday and asked for "a quantity'' of gas to be put in his car.

The driver then attempted to pay with a third-party cheque which he was subsequently told was against company policy.

The driver said he had no other means of payment and it was suggested he go to a nearby supermarket and cash the cheque, which he agreed to do.

But he returned to his car and drove off without paying.

HOUSE BREAK-IN CRM House break-in A Devonshire woman reported to Police that an undisclosed quantity of US and local currency had been stolen from her Dock Hill residence.

She said the culprits entered her home sometime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

MAN HIT WITH HELMET CRM Man hit with helmet A 28-year-old St. George's man required hospital treatment after being hit over the head with a crash helmet.

The victim and another man became involved in a heated argument around 3.30 p.m. on Monday at Coot Pond Road, St. George's when the second man hit him in the head causing a two-inch gash to his forehead.

Police arrested a 42-year-old St. George's man in connection with the incident.

BOY RECOVERS FROM ORDEAL AC Boy recovers from ordeal A four-year-old boy is resting in the children's ward of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after a near drowning during the Cup Match holiday.

Police said the child's father pulled him from the water -- near Stonecrusher Corner, St. George's -- after he fell from a jetski into the water.

Prior to the accident the boy's life jacket had been removed after it was thought he could swim.

POLCE SEARCH SEX PEST CRM POL Police search sex pest Police are looking for a man who reportedly solicited several women and girls in Sandys.

A resident of Kitchener Close, Sandys Parish, told Police the man came to her house asking for sexual favours in return for cash. She told the man to leave which he did. The complainant said she later spoke with several girls in the area who told her the same man had also approached them with similar proposals.

The man was said to have returned to the area and propositioned a friend of the complainant. The offender was described as a white male.
