A taxi driver cheated death after surviving this crash with just cuts and bruises.

She was overtaking a bike on South Road when she was in collision with a truck, spinning her vehicle round and throwing it into a wall near the entrance to Sea Cliffs apartments.

Despite caving in the front of her vehicle, she sustained only cuts to her face and legs in the crash. A nurse on the scene described Ms Sylvia Wilson as "very lucky indeed" as did a Police officer dealing with it.

One fireman, who helped remove the patient through the rear window of the vehicle on a stretcher, said: "She is one lucky, lucky lady. You don't turn up to crashes like this and expect her to just have a few cuts. This could have been a lot worse."

The front of the taxi was caved in and a number of the windows were smashed but the "Your driver today is Sylvia Wilson" badge remained intact on the dashboard - and Police confirmed that indeed was the name of the victim.

Huge traffic jams formed on the busy artery around 12.45 p.m. following the incident which required the road to be briefly closed while the emergency services worked at the scene. The driver of the truck, a Correia Construction Company vehicle, declined to comment.
