Repeat sex offender jailed for 12 months

A three-time sex pest who preys on young girls was jailed yesterday for 12 months.

Ib? Kiemo Joey Todd, 25, of Lightbourne Apartments, Middle Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to intruding on the privacy of a young girl on July 20 of this year.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill told Magistrates' Court that Todd had kissed the ten-year-old girl at the Washington Bus Terminal, in Hamilton, while she was waiting for a bus.

Ms Dill said Todd struck up a conversation with the girl about homework, before placing his hand on her head and kissing her.

Ms Dill added that Todd's last conviction of a similar nature happened in October 2002.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves asked if he had anything to say for himself. Todd said no.

Before sentencing, Mr. Greaves said: "This man is walking trouble. You know how many times I see this man."

Mr. Greaves read out a catalogue of offences dating back to 1993 and said: "This accused has a propensity for trouble and it seems that he seeks it out like destiny.

"He has several convictions and has two other convictions for sexual assault related matters.

"This is his third offence and society needs a rest from him.

"I order 12 months rest from society effective from today."

Accused opts to go to Supreme Court

A 51-year-old man charged with stealing a Bank of Bermuda money sack containing cash and other items worth $805 from the Shiraz Caf? on King Street insisted yesterday on having his trial heard in the Supreme Court.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves had mistakenly set the trial in Magistrates' Court and Pembroke resident Clinton Smith reminded him that he wanted his trial heard in the upper court.

Smith also opted for a long form preliminary inquiry and Mr. Greaves said: "It (the long form preliminary inquiry) may not happen until next spring."

Smith pleaded not guilty to stealing the money bag, which contained $700, a Bank of Butterfield cash card and cheques, which brought the total value of the theft to $805.

Mr. Greaves remanded Smith in custody for mention on November 26.

Assault accused granted bail

A man who allegedly unlawfully assaulted and caused bodily harm to two women was released on bail yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Kriston Adams, 18, of Euclid Avenue, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting a woman on July 15 this year , and also to unlawfully assaulting and causing bodily harm to another woman two days later on July 17.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves released Adams on $1,000 bail with a like surety and set the matter down for trial on January 5.

And a man who is already on remand for allegedly sexually assaulting young girls was yesterday charged with two further counts in Magistrates' Court.

The 22-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not required to enter a plea on the two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves remanded the man in custody and set the matter down for mention on November 26.
