About 7,500 pensioners will receive a Senior Citizens' Advice brochure with their next (pension) payment. The brochure offers advice on how to recognise `con artists', as well as what's new in home security and alarm systems.

The initiative, part of `The Year of the Older Person' observance, is a collaborative effort of the Bermuda Police Crime Prevention Department, Crimestoppers and the Department of Social Services.

INQUIRY SET INTO ROAD DEATH CTS Inquiry set into road death A date for a long form preliminary inquiry has been set for a man accused of manslaughter in connection with the road death of a German student last summer.

Bissoonduthsing Ramchurn, 32, of St. George's, faces seven charges arising from the accident in which Catrin Schaefer, of Hamburg, died.

Ms Schaefer, who was studying at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research, was killed when she collided head-on with a car at Stone Crusher corner, on Kindley Field Road. The inquiry is to be conducted on July 13.

POLICE PROBE RASH OF THEFTS CRM Police probe rash of thefts Thieves have kept Police busy over the last 48 hours. A would-be thief broke into a gate house at the Perfume Factory on Tuesday morning.

Police said the culprit(s) forced open a cast iron gate-house which is at the main entrance to the Perfume Factory.

In an attempt to steal money, the culprit(s) caused extensive damage to two soda vending machines.

But staff had emptied the machines the previous day and therefore nothing was stolen.

Someone also tried to unlawfully enter the Family Resource Network Centre on Mount Hill in Pembroke on Tuesday night.

The main door was jimmied and the glass within the doorframe shattered, Police said. But the culprit(s) were not able to gain entry.

A Nokia cellular telephone and charger valued at $260 were also stolen from a parked and unattended car at Manor House apartments in Smith's Parish on Tuesday evening.
