Wade's warriors march on
Bermuda Under-17s 1 (6) Guyana Under-17s 1 (5)
Bermuda Under-17s national team booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Concacaf region World Cup Qualifiers in Trinidad.
Mark Wade's side overcame Guyana in a thrilling 6-5 penalty shoot-out on Tuesday and were due to face much-fancied Cuba in the quarters last night.
Tuesday's match ended scoreless after regulation time but Guyana took the lead in the 112th minute, only for the Islanders to equalise through Dante Leverock in the final kick of extra-time.
Coach Mark Wade said that although the game was extremely exciting, he was concerned about his side's energy levels ahead of the crucial Cuba game.
"It was a match we were always confident about winning," said Wade.
"The players really didn't put the team away when we had them on the ropes.
"We had more then enough opportunities to win the game outright, so from that aspect I am a bit concerned with the amount of energy we have left in order to advance.
"But this team has a lot of character and will fight to the death.
"We have seen that on several occasions, both in this tournament and in Minnesota recently.
"We are spending time now recovering and letting the tired muscles relax.
"We haven't seen Cuba play, but Ray (Jones) and myself have the experience of playing against them, so we have some knowledge of what their football is like.
"They will certainly be quick on and off the ball with good movement.
"At this level they tend to have very good sides."
Bermuda have played three games in Trinidad, drawing with the host country 1-1, while dispatching Aruba 6-0, before their latest conquest of Guyana.
