An application for a temporary car storage and stripping building for Central Auto Garage on Parsons Road was refused.

The garage has been used for storing and stripping motor vehicles for the past 12 years, and the application was based on longstanding use and its low public visibility.

But the Board rejected the application -- and requested that the Planning Minister consider "enforcement action'' to have the "illegal use'' of the land stopped.

Environment Minister Harry Soares said he was unable to comment on the situation.

Architect David Mello said the rejected proposal was not worth appealing.

"Government is expanding the (Pembroke Marsh) Park, anyway. ..there's no sense in spending the money if you're not going to get the time out of it,'' he said.

Meanwhile, the DAB's rejection of a proposed gymnasium on Woodlands Road is likely to be appealed by the gym's architects.

Steven Wagner of Richard Bath & Associates said the rejection -- on the grounds that it involved commercial use in an industrial zone -- would be appealed.

But Mr. Wagner said the proposed gymnasium would be located in the same building where a karate school used to be.

But the Board gave permission for the Once Upon A Table building to be used for offices and light industrial space.

The building, on 49 Serpentine Road, will house several businesses and the Masterworks Foundation's new gallery.
