MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1: A man accused of attempting to shoot Randolph Lightbourne dead will go on trial next February.

Marico Bassett, 20, is alleged to have shot Mr. Lightbourne outside the Charing Cross Tavern, in Sandys, around 5.10 p.m on July 23.

He denied a charge of attempted murder when he appeared at Supreme Court this morning.

Mr. Lightbourne was aged 44 at the time of the incident, and required hospital treatment for his injuries. Both men are from Sandys.

Bassett, who is represented by lawyer Mark Pettingill, was remanded into custody until his trial.

Also appearing at Supreme Court during the monthly arraignments session was Andre Curtis, 48, from Warwick, who is accused of defrauding the Bermuda Government.

Curtis pleaded not guilty to stealing an unspecified amount of cash from the Government and falsifying the accounts of the Faith Based Tourism budget and his own company Harvest Investment Holdings.

He is further accused of stealing an unspecified amount of money from a man named Andrew Smith, which he also denies.

Curtis, who is represented by lawyer Charles Richardson, was granted bail until his trial, which is due to begin on April 25, next year.

Also before the court was 19-year-old Jahdel Denbroke, of St. George’s.

He is accused of doing grievous bodily harm with intent to Dimitri Broadley on August 10.

Denbroke, who is also represented by Mr. Richardson, denies the offence and was bailed until his trial which will also begin on February 21.
