The National Liberal Party (NLP) has said the Opposition is hypocritical for questioning the controversial Berkeley School project, saying the United Bermuda Party was as bad while it was in office and had many questions to answer.

NLP vice-president Graeme Outerbridge said the UBP was being sanctimonious about the problems over costs and timetable for construction of the school.

And Mr. Outerbridge listed ten questions which he said the UBP must answer about their time in office.

Mr. Outerbridge said: "The UBP still has a long list of questions to answer concerning their financial conduct when occupying government that are just as embarrassing as anything the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) has done. The big disappointment is that the PLP did not highlight or follow through on these important issues during their time as the official opposition. The PLP, rather than learn from the UBP mistakes, have copied their mistakes on assuming government. The result for Bermudians is that they have replaced one bad form of government with another.

"How can Bermudians continue to believe in their process of government when they witness an unelected former Regiment officer (Senator David Burch) holding key influence over an elected premier and at the expense of long-serving PLP members?" Bermuda is beginning to reap a bitter harvest because those with the most ability continue to shun public service.

"We need the best and the brightest of our small society working hard on the challenges that face us. The present state of affairs is disillusioning and serious for Bermuda."

Mr. Outerbridge said the former government must answer:

1. Why did the UBP never finish the National Stadium?

2. Why did the UBP government have huge cost overruns building the new prison?

3. Why did HWP get the lion's share of government car orders under UBP governments?

4. Why was the incinerator twice as expensive than the price first released to the public by the then UBP government?

5. Why was a UBP Minister of Works allowed to be involved in the building and designing of Bermuda College?

6. Why was Maxwell Burgess, a UBP member with no experience in steelworks, allowed to bid on the airport terminal wing, and who were the principals behind the failed Longtail Lounge?

7. Why was a UBP Minister of Telecommunications allowed to be involved with the contract for the new Police communications system?

8. Why were so many UBP members of the House allowed to be involved with land deals with taxpayer money?

9. Why was (Sir) John Swan allowed to buy a road from the Corporation of Hamilton without regard for the public interest?

10. Why are the UBP such hypocrites about the Berkeley project when you ask a few questions about their past fiscal management?
