Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves told a Dunkley's Dairy employee that he should be drinking milk after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.

After John Pacheco, 45, of Orange Hill, St. George's, appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday and was fined substantially for drunk driving, he wanted to know whether he could keep his licence for work.

But Mr. Greaves told him that he would have to take a job milking the cows, rather than being a driver.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines told the court that Pacheco's car was also unlicensed when he was caught.

Mr. Caines said that when the Police pulled Pacheco over he said: "Excuse me sir, what's wrong with my driving now?"

Pacheco was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence and a breath analyser reading showed that he had 127 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit being 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Mr. Greaves, who could not understand Pacheco's logic of drinking alcohol when he was employed by a dairy, said: "I don't understand how he works in a diary and drinks alcohol - I'm the biggest milk fan - you have to drink milk."

Pacheco was fined $1,000 for driving while impaired and $750 for driving an unlicensed motor car. He also lost his licence for 12 months.

Following Pacheco was 48-year-old chef Jurgen Hendiek, of Devonshire, who had the exact same reading of alcohol in his blood when he was caught by the Police on Parliament Street in Hamilton.

Hendiek pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and Mr. Greaves fined him the standard $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
