West 27, of Mullett Bay Road, St. George's was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court for the premeditated murder of his estranged wife, Rochelle West.

He is refusing to appeal against the sentence and has told his family he wants the penalty to be carried out.

The Governor, Lord Waddington, has already called for a written report on the case from the Chief Justice, the Hon. Mr. Justice Ward, and that will be forwarded to the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

It is understood that the committee will meet for the first time this week to begin a review of the case. The committee can recommend that the sentence be commuted, although the Governor will take the final decision.

Lord Waddington has been off the Island, but a spokesman for Government House said yesterday: "It is expected that now that the Governor has got back, he will convene an initial meeting of the committee.''
