Man accused of importing ammunition

A Somerset man faced nine drugs and firearms-related charges when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Dion Bassett, of Spring Benny Road in Somerset, was charged with importing 38 live rounds of ammunition into Bermuda on October 26.

He was also charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to supply, possession of a digital scale, obstruction of justice and escaping custody, as well as assaults on three different Police officers, all on November 9 in Smith's Parish.

Bassett, 26, was not required to enter a plea as all the matters will be tried in Supreme Court. He was remanded into custody, and will reappear in court on November 29 for mention.
