Donald DeSilva, of Green Acres, Devonshire, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to cultivating cannabis.

According to Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant, DeSilva's mother called Police to her home on St. John's Road in Pembroke on April 23 to stop his offensive behaviour.

While talking to DeSilva in his room, Police saw two cannabis plants growing in pots, Sgt. Grant.

When asked about the plants, DeSilva told Police that they were "not here for that so mind your business''.

He also said: "I only smoke it sometimes.'' Yesterday, DeSilva told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis the trees were his. He also noted the trees were about one-foot high and were for his personal use.

But Mr. Francis told DeSilva that "cultivating cannabis is a serious offence, more serious than merely possessing cannabis''.

Drunk driver banned for three years Driving while impaired and disqualified resulted in a 51-year-old Hamilton Parish man being fined $800 and taken off the road for three years.

Donald L. Place, of My Lord's Bay Lane, pleaded guilty yesterday in Magistrates' Court to impaired driving and driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that Police noticed Place driving over the centre line as he headed east on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish at 1 a.m. on September 5.

When Police stopped Place on Coney Island Road they detected alcohol on his breath, and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot.

According to Sgt. Grant, Place had 167 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood -- double the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

Mr. Francis fined him $500 and disqualified for three years for impaired driving, and fined him $300 and disqualified for a year for driving while disqualified. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Student accused of drug offences A secondary school student will stand trial for drug and driving offences next year.

Michael P. Rand, 17, of Warwick, was charged in Magistrates' Court with possessing cannabis with the intent to supply, possessing cannabis, driving while disqualified, driving without third-party insurance, driving an unlicensed vehicle and fraudulently using a vehicle licence plate.

Rand, who was not represented, pleaded not guilty to all the charges and choose to have his case heard in Magistrates' Court.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis granted Rand $500 bail with a like surety and ordered him to return to court on March 1 for trial.

RELATIVES REPORT MISSING MAN POL Relatives report missing man Relatives of a 23-year-old Pembroke man are appealing to the public to help them locate him.

Edward Eugene Glasford, of 3 Middletown Drive, was last seen on September 17 at the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street.

Glasford was described as black, about five-feet, eight-inches tall, of stocky build, and he has a black mole on his right eye.

He was last seen wearing all black clothing and black shoes.

Police yesterday said Glasford's relatives were keen to speak with him. If seen, he is asked to contact Ms Renee Beatrice Darrell on 292-0113.

MAN ACCUSED OF BRUGLING BIU HG CTS Man accused of burgling BIU HQ A 46-year-old man has denied breaking into the Bermuda Industrial Union Building in Pembroke with the intent to steal.

Sidney C. Pitt, of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, was also charged in Magistrates' Court with possession of burglary equipment on September 17.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis set bail at $500 for Pitt and adjourned the case for mention on October 3.
