The teen girl that was stabbed on Front Street over the weekend has been targeted by the same attackers before, her mother has told The Royal Gazette.

The 16-year-old girl was "jumped" by two other girls shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday and stabbed twice - in the left side abdomen and in the back, on the right side below the shoulder blade.

Her mother explained it is not certain yet whether the wounds were made with a knife or another instrument.

The punctures look like holes, she said.

The girl managed to break away from her attackers and made her way onto Reid Street outside of Champion's night club before she collapsed in the street.

The victim's mother said her daughter lost four pints of blood and may have to remain in hospital into the New Year.

And the hospital is keeping a close eye on the girl's lungs because she complained of difficulty breathing after she was stabbed and passed out.

The victim's mother also hit back at what she felt were allegations her daughter should not have been out that late, made by Champion's Club owner Delvin Bean.

She said her daughter had been at a dance at West Pembroke school and had even called her shortly before 1 a.m. to say she intended to pick up some food after leaving the dance before returning home.

"I knew exactly where she was the whole time," said the victim's mother.

She stressed that she did not want people to believe her daughter had been out clubbing or up to no good because that was not the case.

"I understand about what people think about kids being out late at night. You cannot say that about this child. I am a very good parent. I was aware of where she was. They should stop commenting on things they are not sure about," the victim's mother said.

And she took issue with questioning of why her daughter did not walk toward the Police Station one block away.

"She ran away, she was disorientated," said the girl's mother."You can't think straight when you've just been stabbed."

The girl called her mother on her cell phone immediately after the incident and was crying and telling her mother she could not breathe before she collapsed.

"Who do you call when you are that age and you are hurt and frightened? You call your mother," the victim's mother said.

And she said the same girls who stabbed the girl have been targeting her daughter for months and are already due to appear in court for an incident which occurred in September.

The girl's mother said they have harassed the girl - calling her at all hours and damaging her bike and even bragging about it.

"The child could have been killed," said the victim's mother. "I don't know if these girls realise that. She could have been killed and died in the street just like Jermaine Pitcher died and in almost the same place."

The girl's mother said she believed the violence and harassment stemmed from "jealousy" and that one girl of 17 was the "ringleader".

She suspects the girls that attacked her daughter may have followed her from the dance as they were also spotted at West Pembroke that night.

"These girls are doing really dangerous stuff," she said. "It's got to stop."

Police are still investigating the assault.
