A relaxing Sunday afternoon in front of the television ended with a bang for one North Shore Road family yesterday when a Police car slammed into the wall in front of their home.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident in Pembroke said the vehicle had been chasing a bike at high speed when it collided with the wall on the opposite side of the road.

The officer driving lost control of the car, which careened across the road and then up onto the wall of the home opposite the junction of North Shore Road and Ridgeway Road.

"I was just watching television when I heard a big crash," said homeowner Donald Tatem. "I came outside and was shocked to see what I saw - the car sitting up on top of my wall."

There was significant damage to the wall running along the front of the home but the Police officer driving was unhurt.

"I ran over to see if he was OK, or if there was anything I could do for him," said Mr. Tatem. "But, he crawled out and said he was fine."

The crash happened around 5.30 p.m. and Mr. Tatem said Police had the car removed from the wall a couple of hours later.

Police have asked Mr. Tatem to get an estimate for the cost to repair the damages.

"I certainly hope someone will cover the damages as they are quite extensive," he said.
