A Warwick man yesterday pleaded guilty to violently resisting arrest, in an incident which led to a Policewoman requiring medical treatment.

Dwayne Michael Steede, 41, of Spice Hill Road, also pleaded guilty with an explanation, to attempting to pervert the course of justice on January 9.

Yesterday, Magistrates' Court heard that at the time of the offences, Steede was being arrested as a suspect in a burglary which had occurred on Warwickshire Road.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said there had also been a $500 committal warrant out for Steede.

Ms Clarke said that when he was stopped on his bike by the officers, he claimed his name was Jermaine Scott and when asked for his date of birth said, he was born on May 18, 1960.

He told the officers that someone named 'Dwayne Steede' was at a house nearby.

However, when the officers attempted to arrest him he violently resisted and tried to jump over a wall.

After he was arrested, the officer was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital Hospital and was treated and released, but the court heard she was still on sick leave.

Steede said he had come to the area to see his uncle who was not at home.

But Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said he did not want to know why he was there, but instead why he had resisted arrest and used a false name.

Steede said: "I'm sorry Mr. Worship ? I just didn't want that handcuffs on too tight."

Mr. Greaves fined him $500 or 50 days in prison for attempting to pervert the course of justice and another $500 for resisting arrest.
