Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said Bermuda needed an anger management school after dealing with a road rage case in which a woman smashed the windscreen of a car and threatened the driver.

Nichole Renee Simmons, 32, of Sofar Lane, St. David's, pleaded guilty to unlawful assault and threatening behaviour.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told Magistrates Court that on November 8 of last year, Simmons had been travelling on Middle Road in Flatts when she unlawfully assaulted a woman who had been driving in the car in front of her.

Ms Clarke said that Simmons got off her bike and smashed the windscreen with her helmet, snatched the woman's mobile phone and then threatened to hit the woman with her helmet.

The damage to the windscreen totalled $1,768.10. Once arrested, Simmons admitted to the crimes, but claimed that the woman had called her a black Negro bitch and said the driver had also been slamming on her brakes as she was riding behind. Ms Clarke said that Simmons had previous convictions for offences of violence. Simmons said: "I was insulted when she called me a black Negro bitch. I apologised to her after the incident and I had to go to hospital, as well, because I had struck my chest on my bike when she slammed on the brakes."

Mr. Greaves said: "We need an anger management school, sitting on this bench I see so many angry people."

Mr. Greaves fined her $250 for each offence, to be paid by February 7 or 40 days in prison for each count. She was ordered to pay the full $1,768.10 compensation by April 15.
