Good Friday bike crash victim dies

Bermuda has suffered its fourth road death of the year with news yesterday that 26-year-old Irish guest worker Brian Hughes died on Tuesday of injuries incurred in an accident on Good Friday.

Mr. Hughes, who it is understood had only very recently moved to the Island, was driving his rental bike south on Crow Lane in Paget at 6.25 a.m. on March 25 when he lost control and crashed into a wall near the junction with Corkscrew Hill. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he received treatment on a broken right arm and serious head injuries.

When his condition worsened, he was flown to the Lahey Clinic in Boston on March 29.

Mr. Hughes was so new to the Island that Police were unable to confirm where he worked and it was unclear whether the family in Ireland have been informed of his passing.
