Traffic officers busy

Traffic officers had a busy weekend, dealing with more than 30 accidents on the Island's roads. Police report there were 13 road traffic accidents in which motorists were injured and a further 20 accidents they attended where no one was hurt but where vehicles were damaged.

Five people were arrested for suspicion of impaired driving.

Police also reported yesterday that there were four incidents of breaking and entering at the weekend, two in Pembroke and two in Southampton.

Smith's man injured

A 52-year-old Smith's man was taken to hospital on Sunday night after a collision with another vehicle left him with chest injuries and a broken arm.

Police said the man, who was on a bike, overtook a car as it was attempting to turn into Garthowen Estate in Smith's.

An ambulance rushed the man to hospital shortly after 9 p.m.
