High-speed chase ends in fight
Pub-goers battled with Police after a high-speed car chase ended with a crash at the Loyalty Inn, Somerset, on Saturday night.
Loyalty Inn Manager Dennis Vickers witnessed the scene at around 8 p.m.
He said: "There were about four or five guys in a very small red car. It was doing about 50 mph.
"I was sitting on the patio outside and saw the Police right behind them.
"They were trying to escape from the Police - there was a bike in front of them and traffic was coming the other way so they could not get passed so they swerved to avoid colliding with the bike.
"The car smashed head first into the gate. No-one was hurt but the car was probably a write-off.
"Some of them got out of the car and ran.
"The Police arrested the driver but they could not figure out who else was in the car.
"The police were there about an hour afterwards."
He said one or two of his customers had got involved.
He said: "They were fighting with the police. They were trying to protect their brothers."
"I don't know what they were chasing them for. They came from Woody's Drive Inn."Last night Police could not provided details about the operation or how many arrests had been made.
