Warren Smith, 46, of Marsh Lane, Pembroke, has denied assaulting a Police officer, using threatening behaviour, and possessing a weapon -- a machete -- on December 12 in Pembroke.

Magistrate the Wor. Edward King yesterday adjourned Smith's trial because he said: "I do not think this man is all together.'' The case was adjourned until tomorrow and Smith was remanded in custody.

SOLDEIRS JAILED FOR MISSING DUTIES CTS Soldiers jailed for missing duties Two soldiers who failed to attend the Bermuda Regiment on occasions "too numerous to mention'' were sentenced to three months in jail each yesterday.

Leroy Eugene Bartram, 20, of Texas Road, St. David's, and Gregory Foster Grant, 22, of Mount Hill, Pembroke, both failed to attend the Bermuda Regiment despite being reprimanded several times.

They admitted the charges.

Bartram told the court he had problems with drugs and had been kicked out of his house but was now ready to serve.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl Ann-Mapp told Bartram that he had shown "flagrant disregard'' for the Regiment and hoped the time in custody would "reinforce your resolve''.

ADDICT STOLE TO `MAINTAIN A HIGH' CTS Addict stole to `maintain a high' A 28-year-old heroin addict who stole to "maintain his high'' was remanded in custody yesterday to await sentencing in the Supreme Court after he admitted stealing $2,204 worth of cash and goods.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told Magistrates' Court that Leslie Wade, of Loyal Hill Road, Devonshire committed eight offences of breaking and entering people's homes.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl Ann-Mapp remanded Wade in custody to await sentencing in the Supreme Court because the Magistrates' Court's powers of sentencing were not strong enough.

She pointed out Wade had a previous record.

FINED $500 FOR SMUGGLING MONEY CTS Fined $500 for smuggling money A St. George's man was fined $500 of Friday for attempting to export more than $15,000 in foreign currency two years ago.

The trial of Lewis Foggo, 32, of Aunt Peggy's Lane ended in Magistrates' Court after he was found guilty of trying to export $15,930 in US bills on December 15, 1993.

Magistrate the Wor. Edward King said Foggo would have to forfeit the money he said he had found and would have to pay the fine by March 29, 1996 or be imprisoned for 28 days.

NO BOAT STICKERS, MAN FINED $200 CTS No boat stickers, man fined $200 A 27-year-old Southampton man was fined $200 yesterday after he failed to check that his father's boat was displaying the correct registration information before he drove it.

Philippe Rouja, of Lighthouse Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving a boat in the Little Sound on July 9 which did not have the registration decal showing and did not have the registration numbers on the hull.

Rouja told the court that the boat belonged to his father and he had just put it in the water to check that it was working when he was stopped by the Marine Police.

MAN CHARGED WITH STEALING CYCLE CTS Man charged with stealing cycle A 24-year-old St. George's man was charged with stealing a motorcycle and pleaded guilty to seven traffic offences, six of which happened on the same day as the alleged theft, in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Usecto Durrant, of Top Square, pleaded not guilty to stealing the cycle valued at $1,500 on July 1 but pleaded guilty to not having third party insurance, failing to stop twice, driving without a licence, driving in a dangerous manner and failing to stop after a traffic accident on the same day. Durrant will be sentenced for the traffic offences at the conclusion of his trial for the alleged cycle theft on January 16.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl Ann-Mapp released him on $800 bail with a like surety.
