The One Bermuda Alliance is down — but not out, its leader has said.Craig Cannonier, the Leader of the Opposition, said, despite the Progressive Labour Party’s landslide 30-6 General Election triumph, the OBA was still viable.Mr Cannonier added: “We will continue to be a vibrant voice for the people of Bermuda and its development, standing for fairness, equity, opportunities and good governance.“The One Bermuda Alliance is a very firmly established part of Bermuda’s political landscape and, in a short time, has made a huge contribution to Bermuda and Bermudians.” Mr Cannonier said: “We are still the only other party with seats in the House of Assembly and the Senate. “That is instructive. The OBA is not going anywhere.“The OBA has a strong, committed team, with a number of new politicians. We will all continue our presence and work in the constituencies and confirm our importance to Bermuda.”Mr Cannonier thanked the party’s candidates and people who backed the party over the election campaign — and the winning PLP.But he added: “It is our fervent wish, for Bermuda’s sake, that their rhetoric can be matched with positive action.“The election has not changed the precarious situation of Bermuda, nor has it changed the hard challenges of the daily existence of our people.”Mr Cannonier highlighted controversy over an $800,000 Government loan to US-based Savvy Entertainment and its owner Anthony Blakey for a state-of-the-art recording studio in Dockyard, which never opened, as well as problems at Harrington Sound Primary School in Smith’s, including allegations of poor Covid-19 risk management and dictatorial senior staff.Mr Cannonier said: “The One Bermuda Alliance will speak to these, and other existing and emerging matters, as appropriate. “Our Parliamentary team will support what is in the interest of Bermuda and take firm positions when the interests of the people are not being served.”
