Constituency 33 Sandys South - Alvin Wilson
Cell: 537-5071
Hard-working Alvin Wilson has always had a keen eye for innovation.
Now, the veteran businessman wants to bring his diligence, imagination and entrepreneurial spirit to the House of Assembly.
Alvin was born and raised on Hog Bay Level, Sandys Parish. His father, Granville, carried three jobs while his mother, Anita, worked at two jobs. Alvin carried on the family work ethic, as a golf caddy and construction labourer in his spare time by age 12.
He attended primary school at Southampton Glebe, Bermuda Institute, and Heron Bay. He then won a bursary to attend Saltus Grammar School. Upon graduation, he attended Bermuda College, and went on to study Business Administration at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica.
Alvin began his business career as a management trainee at Bank of Bermuda, and spent 13 years with the organisation before leaving to set up Bermuda Financial Network with a partner. Today, he is Vice President and Managing Director of the financial services firm.
Married with three children, Alvin is a great believer in providing opportunities for young people. “We must provide outlets for them, whether it be sports clubs or mentoring programmes, so that they can channel their energy in positive ways,” he says. “Education is key – we must improve our formal education system as well as providing after school programmes to help those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.”
Alvin, a regular churchgoer, also believes in assisting the most vulnerable members of society. He was one of the early members of STAR, and was a board member with the organisation. He sat on the executive committee that founded the Bermuda Hospice.
“Today, more than ever in Bermuda, we need people in politics who will bring the community together,” Alvin says. “I promise to do just that if I am elected.”

Alvin earned the highest mathematics grade in Bermuda on the 11-plus exams. His ability with numbers served him well later in life when he co-founded the highly successful Bermuda Financial Network financial services firm.
A Plan for Sandys South
* Creating an after-school programme to assist students with their homework and help them to develop their reading, writing and mathematics skills
* Setting up a team to remove graffiti from public spaces and paint houses that have been neglected
* Upgrading the facilities at Long Bay Beach by providing proper restrooms and changing facilities
* Working with churches and other community groups to meet the emergency needs of our poorest residents, and providing life coaching to assist them to become self-sufficient
* Maximising the use of White Hill Field, the Railway Trail, Hog Bay Level Park, Wreck Estate Beach, Fort Scaur and The Hayden Trust for events that promote community cohesion
* Creating positive outlets for our young people so that they resist the lure of gang life
* Enlisting the help of skilled trades people to run training and mentoring programmes for young people and adults
