Ten students receive David Allen tourism internships

The Department of Tourism has welcomed ten of the Island's brightest students to participate in the 2005 David H. Allen Summer Internship Programme and will be travelling to various destinations across the globe including New York and London.

The students, who are all focusing on careers related to the tourism industry, were formally introduced to the Minister of Tourism and Transport, Dr. Ewart Brown at a special luncheon late last month.

Dr. Brown said he students chosen for the programme were among the Island's most talented.

"They are ambitious, they are enthusiastic and they have demonstrated a genuine interest in our tourism industry," he said.

He said the Bermuda Government would continue to concentrate its efforts on the next generation through the tourism internship programme.

"These individuals will gain a greater understanding of the tourism product, and greater awareness of the marketing and sales initiatives of the Bermuda Department of Tourism."

The Department of Tourism established the Summer Internship Programme in 1999,offering Bermudian students the unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the marketing and sales of Bermuda Tourism.

Over the past six years, the programme has proven to be extremely successful and continuing to expand.

This year's participants include Jereme Ramsay who ill be stationed in the Marketing Department in Bermuda.

He is currently entering his final year at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he is studying Marketing and Public Relations.

NinaThompson is being placed at Media Planning Group (MPG) in New York ? Bermuda Tourism's media buying agency for North America.

She graduated from the McGill University last week where she studied International Business and Marketing.

Tallent Clark will work in the Atlanta Sales Office and is currently enrolled at Florida International where he's working towards a Bachelor's degree in Communications, specialising in Advertising.

Vanessa Bartley will spend her summer at Lou Hammond and Associates in New York ? Bermuda Tourism's Public Relations Agency for North America and is studying Public Relations at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Carolyn Tavares will be placed in the New York Sales Office and is enrolled at Sacred Heart University where she'll pursue Media Studies.

Sasha Ternent will also be in the New York Sales Office and is enrolled in McGill University, pursuing a double major in International Development Studies and Political Science.

Shelton Williams will spend time at GlobalHue, Bermuda Tourism's Multicultural and Integration agency and is currently studying at Atlantic Union College, pursuing a Degree in Business Administration.

Travis Tucker will be working with IMG Consulting ? actively working with the Department on Sports and Lifestyle tourism events.

He graduated last year with a Bachelor's in International Business, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Marketing and Finance at Fordham University in New York City.

Erika Thompson will be placed at ArnoldWorldwide, Bermuda's Tourism's North American advertising agency in New York and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

While Jessica Marwick will travel to Hills Balfour in London ? Tourism's UK/Europe Marketing Agency.

She is currently enrolled in the University of Toronto, studying History and Political Science.
