English county star David Hemp cracked an unbeaten 174 to power Bermuda to an impressive total on day two of their Intercontinental Cup clash with hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Dubai today.

Picking up where he had left off the week before with scores of 97 and 68 not out in Kenya, the stylish lefty pounced all over a UAE attack that was mercilessly put to the sword, hammering 24 fours and four sixes off 252 balls on the way to a second Intercontinental Cup century.

Along with tailender and first day bowling hero Kevin Hurdle, who lashed 26 off 37 balls, Hemp shared in a record 132 run, ninth-wicket stand that enabled the Islanders to open a 169 run first innings lead in reply to the hosts’ modest 142.

Left- arm spinner Silva Shadeep (three for 53) led a UAE attack that surrendered 213 runs in the field today after the Islanders had resumed on their overnight total of 98 for four.

At stumps, however, the Arabs were comfortably poised at 117 for one after overcoming the early dismissal of opener Silva Gayan (four), snapped up by the burly Dwayne Leverock off the bowling of teenaged prodigy Malachi Jones, to move within 51 runs of the Islander’s first innings score.
