Trott inspires Development XI
Bermuda Development XI 169
Cayman Island 118
Promising cricketer Lateef Trott turned in an outstanding all round performance to inspire a Bermuda Development Select to a first win in the ICC Americas Under-15 Championships currently underway on local soil.
The left handed opening batsman smashed a whirlwind 64 off 61 balls and then seamed his way to equally impressive figures of four for 18 during a fiesty four over burst that sealed his team's hard fought 51-run win over Cayman Island at Wellington Oval on Wednesday..
Led by Trott's swashbuckling innings, the hosts piled up a decent total before they were eventually dismissed in the 38th over, with Okera Bascome (18) and Janai Ratteray 17 also managing good starts at the crease.
George Cannonier, Bermuda Development XI coach, was among those paying tribute to young Trott's herocis with both bat and ball.
"I thought Lateef did extremely well with the bat and was very unfortunate not to go on and get a century under his belt," he said. "He did an excellent job with the bat and then came back and did the damage with the ball."
Overall, Cannonier said he is pleased with his team's progress in the tournament.
"Everyone is delighted at the moment and it was great to finally get a win under our belts. It certainly lifted the players' spirits," he added.
Joniel Bent (three for 18) and Codie McLaughlin (three for 38) were the pick of the Cayman bowling.
Having earlier put the Cayman attack to the sword, Trott was just as ruthless with the ball and was the driving force behind a major slide that saw the visitors slump from 110 for three to 118 all out in the space of 24 balls.
Assisting Trott in the bowling department were swing bowler Jalen Harvey and seamers Winton Woodley and Rico Trott who grabbed two wickets each.
"Winton, Jalen and Rico also bowled exceptionally well," Cannonier acknowledged.
The Bermuda Development XI currently occupy fourth spot in the six team standings and are scheduled to take on USA today at Southampton Oval before finishing tomorrow against Bahamas at Sea Breeze Oval.
Also in action today is Bermuda's Under-15 national team who can clinch the tournament with a win against Canada at Lords coupled with a win by the Bermuda Development XI over USA.
