Bike smash teen in fight for life
The teenager involved in a horrific road crash at the weekend was fighting for his life after undergoing surgery last night.
The victim, a 16-year-old St. George?s youth, was airlifted to a hospital in the US on Sunday morning following the crash, which took place in Spanish Point on Saturday afternoon. The teen?s bike burst into flames after crashing into a tree near the Clarence Dale Road junction. It is understood that the crash victim suffered from extensive burns in the explosion.
The teen?s family are currently at his bedside. Last night a Police spokesman who has been in touch with the family, told that the youth suffered burns over 90 percent of his body and was undergoing surgery yesterday evening. No further details were available when went to press last night.
The victim?s 15-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle in the smash and escaped with minor injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, which took place at about 12.20 p.m., to contact Acting Sgt. Andrew Exell on 299-4302
