An illegal immigrant will spend his last few days in Bermuda at Westgate.

When Richard Orgille from Kingston Jamaica was arrested for being an illegal immigrant, he had told Police he had stayed over his 21 day limit to be with his infant son in Bermuda.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday it was explained that Orgille entered the Island in August 2000 for a short stay, but had been living in Pembroke ever since.

The 34-year-old had no money to return to Jamaica when he was arrested, but his family have since provided the money for him to travel back to Jamaica via London on August 5.

Orgille will stay in jail until his flight when officials will take him to the airport and watch to make sure he boards his flight.

A Saturday night party was brought to an abrupt end after Police found cannabis during a group search. Police had driven past a group of men on Crow Lane at 10 p.m. on March 29 when they all turned their backs to the car, making Police very suspicious. They were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act when 22-year-old Phillip Rego was found with .75 grams of cannabis on his person. He was arrested for drug possession.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday Rego from Poinciana Road in Devonshire said he understood the reason why he was being arrested. "It's weed," he said at the time of his arrest.

Rego was fined $250 by Acting Senior Magistrate William Francis.

A cycle thief was yesterday charged in Magistrates' Court with inflicting bodily harm on A Police officer.

Jamaine Salaam, from Beacon Hill in Sandys, pleaded not guilty to two counts of cycle theft in October 2001 and March of this year. The 30-year-old also denied that he had violently resisted arrest in April, doing a Police officer bodily harm and damaging a Police uniform in the process. But he did say he was guilty of receiving the two stolen cycles with full knowledge they had been taken illegally.

Acting Senior Magistrate William Francis remanded Salaam in custody until his trial on October 23.

A tourist yesterday left the Front Street branch of the Bank of Butterfield with less than she had expected when someone stole her wallet from her purse.

The complainant entered the bank at around 5.30 p.m. in order to check a problem with her credit card. According to Police, the tourist placed her wallet into her purse while being served at the bank.

But when she later tried to find her wallet, she discovered that it was missing along with an amount of cash, some personal papers and her debit card.

A heroin addict was jailed for six months after he admitted to outstanding fines and warrants in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Michael Desilva, of Wentworth Lane, Sandys had his day in court after he was said to be in breach of his probation with a history of warrants. He had a record of three theft convictions, including cheque fraud and a bike theft on July 25. An outstanding speeding ticket was added to his list of charges and he told Acting Senior Magistrate William Francis that he could not pay the $250 fine, so would go to jail for 14 days instead.

"I apologise for wasting the court's time, I tried to do the right thing, but I got caught up in heroin again," said Desilva.He was given six months in jail and a recommendation that he seek a drug addiction treatment programme.
