A five year old boy has made serious tracks in motocross racing by winning two top awards at competitions in the United States.

Paget Primary student Jahzai Woodley-Tear astounded spectators at the race in Fayetteville, North Carolina last week when he crashed his mini 50 cc racer only moments after crossing the start line and then passed almost all his opponents to come first in his age group and second overall.

"I thought I was going to come last," he said. "I decked out but I caught them back up and took the inside and they couldn't catch me up again."

The massive trophy Jahzai received after that race was his second in as many weeks. On July 26, he took the position of first in his age group, and fourth overall, at a race in East Bend, North Carolina. He was competing against racers who were mostly older than him, between the ages of seven and nine.

"I just ride and I come first," said the bashful Jahzai, who practices on his bike two to three times a week at "The Desert", off Glebe Road.

Proud mother Jahmela Tear said her son "was able to ride a motorbike before he even got started on a normal push-bike" at the amazing age of three.

She said: "It's scary watching them all take off when they begin a race. They can easily collide and pile up. But I have faith because I know that he loves it.
